What’s the Best Website Platform for Photographers?

There’s no shortage of platforms claiming to be the best website platform for photographers. And if you’ve been feeling stuck between options—WordPress, Showit, Squarespace, Pixieset, Wix, Shopify, and more—you’re not alone. It can be overwhelming trying to decide where to invest your time, energy, and money.

But after over ten years of experience working with photographers as a website designer and SEO expert, we’ve landed on one clear favourite: Showit*

It gives photographers the flexibility to design a site that truly reflects their style, offers robust built-in SEO capabilities {with the ability to add more}, an intuitive user experience, and access to a genuinely helpful support team. That’s why we chose to use Showit exclusively to build our custom client websites and Showit website templates.

Let’s explore why.

1. Why other website platforms often fall short for photographers who are serious about booking more clients

Before we dive into what makes Showit a standout, let’s take a quick look at why some of the other popular platforms often fall short for photographers.

And remember, everyone has a personal preference. What’s worked for us and our clients might not work for you.

WordPress

Powerful? Absolutely. But intuitive? Not so much. WordPress is like a giant toolbox—great if you know what you’re doing, frustrating if you don’t. Without coding knowledge or a developer on hand, simple changes can quickly spiral into broken pages, plugin conflicts, and hours lost Googling fixes {or weeks waiting to hear back from your tech guy!}

Many photographers who start with WordPress find themselves stuck in maintenance mode, overwhelmed by updates and backend issues instead of focusing on growing their business.

Squarespace

Squarespace is often praised for being simple and beautiful out of the box, and for some industries, that’s enough. But as a visual creative, you probably want more flexibility to make your site reflect your unique aesthetic. With Squarespace, design limitations can make it feel like you’re fitting your business into a box instead of building a site around your brand.

Integrating third-party tools, fine-tuning layout nuances, or managing SEO settings can also feel clunky. It’s not quite the powerhouse many photographers need for long-term growth.

Pixieset

We love Pixieset for client galleries and delivery—that’s its speciality and they do it really well. Their website builder is a nice addition if you’re already using Pixieset for galleries, but it’s fairly limited in flexibility which can make it tricky to create a truly custom, strategic site that grows with your business. And SEO can be very limited.

Wix

Wix has improved in recent years. In fact, if this was a few years ago, it wouldn’t even be a consideration.

It can seem like a great all-in-one option, especially for beginners — it’s simple to set up and has plenty of templates to choose from. But under the surface, it often lacks the depth that growing photography businesses need.

The SEO tools are fairly basic, which can limit how well your site performs in search engines.

There’s also less room for expansion over time—integrations are limited, and adding more advanced features or functionality can feel clunky or impossible.

If you’re looking to scale, streamline workflows, or optimise long-term, Wix will feel limited.

2. Why I recommend Showit for photographers

Now, let’s talk about Showit and why we believe it’s the best website platform for photographers who want a site that looks incredible and actually works to help you book more of the right clients.

Complete design flexibility {No code needed}

Photographers are visual people. You know when something feels off. Showit lets you design your site exactly how you want it with full creative freedom. You can layer text, adjust image placement pixel by pixel, and customise both desktop and mobile versions separately. No code {unless you want it}. No limitations.

This is game-changing if you’ve ever felt boxed in by a template that doesn’t quite match your brand.

Built-in SEO tools

If you want your dream clients to be able to find you in search engines {or be recommended by AI like ChatGPT}, this is going to be an important factor for you.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Showit is that it’s just for looks and isn’t great for SEO, but that’s not true. Showit actually makes it easy to build a website with strong SEO foundations without adding overwhelm or complexity.

From the way your pages are structured to how your content is organised, it’s all designed to support visibility and growth. So as your business evolves, your website is already set up to grow with it.

And if you’re looking for a website that’s not just designed beautifully but also built with SEO in mind, our Showit website templates are specifically designed for photographers and include clear, actionable guidance to help you implement it all simply so you can feel confident your site is set up to be found by your dream clients.

WordPress blog integration

Here’s the peach: Showit integrates with WordPress for blogging.

That means your main site is designed entirely in Showit (drag-and-drop, no code), but your blog is powered by WordPress, giving you the SEO benefits and powerful blog tools WordPress is known for. It’s the best of both worlds and a big reason why Showit is often the smart choice when comparing platforms.

Advanced SEO capabilities

That leads us onto how you can improve SEO further by expanding on the tools Showit already offers. With the advanced blogging tier, you can install powerful WordPress plugins like RankMath {our personal favourite}, Yoast SEO, or SEO Press.

These tools help you fine-tune your content, target specific keywords, and get deeper insights into how your site is performing, giving you even more control as your business and content grow.

Seamless integrations

WordPress plugins and integrations aren’t just helpful for SEO, but for connecting with the other tools your business relies on. From contact forms and CRMs to booking systems, email marketing platforms {like Flodesk*, Kit, MailChimp, etc}, and even e-commerce tools, you can integrate what you need to streamline your workflow and support your client experience. It’s flexibility that grows with your business.

Mobile friendly

Unlike many platforms that just scale down your desktop layout, Showit allows you to design a completely separate mobile version of your site. Considering most photography clients browse on their phones, this detail matters more than ever.

You can adjust font sizes, rearrange elements, and ensure your mobile site is every bit as beautiful and user-friendly as the desktop one.

Easy to use {even if you’re not techy}

Showit was built for creative people, not coders. Its interface is intuitive, visual, and user-friendly—everything is done with simple drag-and-drop, so you can move text, images, and layouts exactly where you want them.

You don’t need to hire a developer or spend hours in tutorials to make updates.

If you can use Canva, you can use Showit.

This ease of use means more time doing what you love and less time stressing over website edits.

But like with any new software, there will be a learning curve and it doesn’t suit everyone.

3. Why Showit works so well for photographers

Your website shouldn’t just showcase your work and look pretty. It should:

  • Reflect your brand and visual style
  • Build trust with potential clients
  • Show up in search results for your local area
  • Answer questions before they’re asked
  • Guide people clearly toward booking you
  • Help you stand out in a saturated market
  • Be easy to maintain and update

Showit delivers all of this. Plus, the ability to easily showcase galleries, share blog posts, and write SEO-optimised content makes it an incredible asset to any photographer looking to grow.

Whether you shoot weddings, portraits, families, or brand sessions—your website needs to reflect your professionalism and uniqueness. Showit makes that possible without needing a design or tech degree.

What about cost?

Showit’s pricing is in line with most other website platforms, and it offers a few different tiers depending on what you need.

If you’re just after a clean, customisable website without blogging, the basic tier is a great place to start.

For photographers who want a blog or need plugin access for added functionality, the advanced blog tier opens up even more flexibility. It’s designed to grow with you, so you can choose what fits now and upgrade later if needed.

But will a Showit website really help you book more clients & increase your income as a photographer?

Yes—but not by itself.

Showit is an incredible platform for photographers. It gives you full creative freedom, expansive SEO capabilities, beautiful design control, and a much easier way to customise your website compared to many other platforms. It gives you everything you need to really stand out from your competitors. That’s why so many photographers love it.

But here’s what you need to know: Simply switching to Showit won’t automatically bring you more bookings.

A website only converts visitors into enquiries if it’s built with strategy, not just aesthetics.

If your site isn’t:

  • Clearly communicating who you help and why you’re the right choice
  • Guiding visitors towards taking action
  • Optimised for SEO so the right people can actually find you
  • Structured to build trust and answer objections

…then it won’t matter whether it’s on Showit, Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress.

I’ve seen photographers move to Showit, invest thousands in a beautiful design, and still struggle with bookings—not because Showit doesn’t work, but because the website wasn’t designed to sell.

The real magic {consistent bookings with the right clients} happens when Showit is combined with:

  • Strategic page structure
  • Clear messaging
  • SEO foundations
  • Intentional user journeys

That’s when your website stops being just a portfolio and starts acting as your hardest working employee and actually helps you earn more income.

So yes—Showit can absolutely help you book more clients. But only when it’s used as part of a bigger strategy, not as a magic fix.

If you want all of that—the strategy, the SEO foundations, the intentional page layouts—without having to figure it out from scratch, that’s exactly why I created my Showit website templates for photographers.

They’re designed to give you both the creative freedom Showit is known for, easy step-by-step SEO to help you get found by the right clients, and the strategic structure that actually helps convert visitors into bookings. In other words, you get a website that looks amazing and works hard for your business from day one.

You've updated your site, curated your portfolio, and re-designed your website repeatedly. But you're still not consistently attracting high-end clients. In our experience? It’s probably not your talent—it’s your website, and we're going to show you how to fix it!
